Diploma of Advanced Studies

The Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Pharmaceutical Medicines program provides specialist knowledge in the field of drug development at an advanced level. The syllabus of the course program covers all aspects of pharmaceutical medicine and drug development as defined by the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians IFAPP.

This includes the discovery and development of new medicines, clinical trial methodology, good clinical practice and ethics, pharmacovigilance and epidemiology, biostatistics, regulatory affairs, health economics, project management, marketing and new therapeutic approaches.

After having successfully completed the DAS program with 30 ECTS, training can be complemented with further learning elements to achieve a Master of Advanced Studies in Medicines Development.

The ECPM belongs to the Department of Public Health of the Medical Faculty at the University of Basel and is accredited as “Centre of Excellence” by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) PharmaTrain Executive Board.

All ECPM courses are accredited by IMI PharmaTrain and the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians (IFAPP) by following the agreed syllabus and quality assurance, and are certified by the University of Basel within the Bologna Title System.

The course program in the amount of 30 ECTS is divided into six modules consisting of four days each over a period of two years. Learning methods comprise online preparation, lectures and group work on case studies. The course language is English.

The ECPM Advanced Studies degrees are targeted at representatives from the pharmaceutical industry, service industry, academic and government decision- and policy-makers who already have a good understanding of the basics of drug development and will benefit from a more in-depth, comprehensive and systematic immersion into modern medical product and device development, regulation and market introduction.

In order to enroll for a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Pharmaceutical Medicine, applicants must have a higher university degree, such as a Master’s, MD, PharmD or PhD. Applicants should have a primary interest in medical product discovery, development, regulation and health care system. The program is particularly aimed at professionals who are involved in the drug development process and have already at least one to two years working experience. Applications sur dossier are possible on an individual basis.

The ECPM teaching faculty consists of an international network of about +150 experts from academia, pharmaceutical industry, international organizations (e.g. WHO) and from regulatory authorities (e.g. EMA, FDA and local authorities).

The tuition fee for the entire course amounts to CHF 15’500. A reduced fee of CHF 14’750 applies to continuing training centers “Weiterbildungsstätten” of SGPM (Swiss Society of Pharmaceutical Medicine) and SwAPP (Swiss Association of Pharmaceutical Professionals) and for companies who register more than 10 participants. The special fee for non-profit organizations is CHF 10’000.

The tuition fee includes

• Online course material • Lunches and coffee breaks and a welcome aperitif per module

• Access to the online media library

• Fee for the multiple choice questions (MCQ) exam (Certificate of Advanced Studies)

Not included are the printed course materials, which are provided for CHF 500 and can be ordered optionally. For the oral/essay examination (Diploma of Advanced Studies) CHF 750 will be charged.
