CAS Health Research and Interventions (CAS HRI)
Certificate of Advanced Studies

The Certificate of Advanced Studies in “Health Research and Interventions” (CAS HRI) provides international participants with the competencies to collect, analyse, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data relevant to improving health and healthcare in low- and middle-income societies (Module A: Concepts and Health Research). Participants also acquire the skills and knowledge to identify and analyse the interrelated determinants of health and the main health problems of populations in low- and middle-income societies across disciplines (Module B: Health Challenges and Responses).

With a focus on practical application and interactive training, participants of the CAS HRI benefit from engaging with experts from various fields and with the international and diverse student body participating in the full-time DAS Health Care and Management: From Research to Implementation (DAS HCM) course.

To achieve an optimal learning experience, the CAS HRI (15 ECTS) employs a diverse spectrum of educational methods. The course is enriched by a lively exchange of experiences, ideas and mutual learning among participants and facilitators, alike. The students and teaching team reflect various disciplines, countries and experiences at local, national and international levels.

The CAS HRI can be completed in a modular way over one or two years. Starting with Module A is recommended but not mandatory. If you also attend the CAS Health Research and Interventions, you can obtain the DAS Health Care and Management.

Mode of delivery is planned on campus, adapted to on-line and/or hybrid if the COVID situation requires. Updated information and current dates are listed on the Swiss TPH website.

The course is open to participants from various backgrounds and countries. Participants are mostly trained health professionals (medical doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, etc.), though participants from other disciplines (business or social science, for example) also contribute to class diversity.

Participants with a first professional qualification (e.g. Bachelor degree) have at least 2 years of professional experience and demonstrate sufficient English language skills (TOEFL Paper 550/ TOEFL Computer 213/ TOEFL internet 79 – 80/ IELTS 6.0 or native speaker or completed higher education in English).
