REDCap® Workshop: How to develop your own database
Short Course

When conducting clinical research, it is essential to use a data capture system that is accepted by the ethical committees. REDCap® (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure and validated web application, made available by the Department of Clinical Research for researchers at the University Hospital of Basel and affiliated research institutions. It can be used for building and managing online surveys and databases.

The course offers an introduction to the use of that application for participants to develop their own databases. It also focuses on the most important methodological and regulatory aspects in managing clinical data in REDCap®. Through the course, participants will develop an understanding and first practical experience in using REDCap® based on hands-on exercises.

Main topics covered during this workshop are: short demo of REDCap®, creating own database according to a specific project design (e.g. longitudinal, survey, etc.), developing instruments with various types of parameter, data entry (including data import and survey mode), set up of a randomisation process, creating reports, data export, as well as getting registered and finding support. There will be also an opportunity to bring and discuss your own topics.

This workshop requires students to attend a 3-hour session (45-min lecture and live demo, followed by a short break and 2-hour hands-on exercises and discussion).
